­One of PT Trakindo Utama achievements at the end of 2009 was delivering  the first CAT Rotary Mixer, RM-500, in Indonesia for  road maintenance/repair by using the  Soil Stabilization and Full Depth Reclamation method. PT Trakindo Utama handed over the equipment to PT Harap Panjang on  December 9, 2009 at the office of Trakindo Pekanbaru.           

The RM-500 Unit is a machine which does  road maintenance/repair by using the Soil Stabilization and Full Depth Reclamation Method.  During the Soil Stabilization process, this unit loosens up the soil and mixes it  with a type of additive, such as  cement, so that the surface of the road has better supporting power.          

                                       
During the Full Depth Reclamation process this unit peels off and mixes the entire asphalt layer and a part of the road  base layer which are damaged at the same time, and simultaneously an additive (normally asphalt emulsion) is sprayed on the surface so that a new base layer is created with better supporting capability and higher quality.

During the hand over Trakindo also conducted a training session on the operation and  maintenance of  the machine, attended by the operators and mechanics of PT Harap Panjang. The training was given by the Operator  Instructors from Trakindo, Arie Suhendro and Syairi Syarif, in collaboration with a Paving Specialist from Caterpillar, Peter Wan.


Currently the Full Depth Reclamation method is  one of the main alternatives selected by the Public Works Department as a method of asphalt road repair and maintenance. The method is  an efficient and effective way to get good final result because the asphalt and the base layer will be mixed by the Rotary Mixer unit to be re-cycled to form the new base. The work process does not require closing the entire road so that it can avoid heavy traffic jams and road repair/maintenance can  be done quickly and the road can be used immediately.     

­­Considering the availability of the RM-500 unit in Pekanbaru and the great  opportunity for the use of the unit for the Soil Stabilization and Full Depth Reclamation process in Indonesia, Trakindo is expected to take part in  road maintenance projects by providing the next Road Mixer units.
