The issue of global warming has lately become a hot discussion topic around the world. Many activities have been done to minimize the impact of global warming threat. Started by the Kyoto Protocol in Japan and followed by the Bali Roadmap which was held in Indonesia in December 2007.
This year’s theme of the commemoration of the World Environment Day which fell on June 5 has been stipulated by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) with the annual theme "Kick The Habit, Toward A Low Carbon Economy". This theme was later adapted and adjusted with the latest condition in Indonesia into "Change the Behavior and Prevent the Environmental Pollution”.
To minimize the impact of air pollution and to commemorate the World Environment Day, SHE & CC Committee, PT Trakindo Utama - Palembang Branch carried out the tree planting event, which was carried out last June and was attended by all of the employees and contractors of Trakindo Palembang.
Eka Budhi Mahatma, Branch Manager of Palembang Region, symbolically planted the first tree in Trakindo backyard. The number of trees planted was consisting of Mango trees, Custard Apple (Annona Squamosa) trees, Palm trees and Glodokan trees. The number will be increased both in quantity and variety considering that there is a lot of space which can be used to support the Green Movement.
In his speech, Eka expressed his hope that the spirit of going green would inspire the love for nature and the fruits yielded could benefit all of the employees at Trakindo Palembang.
