JAKARTA, 16 OCTOBER 2020 –– Under the Adaptation to New Normal period, activities cannot normally run in Indonesia, including education. The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan/Kemendikbud) requires all educational institutions to apply the remote learning program (Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh/PJJ) and utilize technology to adapt to the current condition. As the company committed to supporting and actively contributing to advancing Indonesian education, PT Trakindo Utama (Trakindo), the Cat® heavy-equipment solution provider, has held the Heavy Equipment Engineering Competency Competition (Kompetisi Kompetensi Keahlian Teknik Alat Berat/K3TAB) since 2008. This year, Trakindo conducted K3TAB virtually for the first time.

Yulia Yasmina, Chief Administration Officer Trakindo, explained how the pandemic had pushed everyone to be more creative and resilient. “K3TAB is vital to our sustainable commitment to advancing heavy-equipment engineering education. Even amidst the pandemic, we adapt and innovate to conduct the competition virtually. This year, K3TAB raise the theme of Together Strengthen the Potential of the Nation. We want to inspire all participants to have a winning mindset, always find a way out from every challenge, keen on achieving their goals, and become the highly competent and of good character generation,” Yulia revealed during the K3TAB 2020 closing ceremony.

K3TAB is an annual competition for students and college students in heavy-equipment engineering, a part of the Trakindo Cooperative Education Program (COOP). This activity is an embodiment of the Advancing You Forward spirit, highlighting corporate social responsibility initiatives in developing the quality of character-based education for heavy-equipment engineering in Indonesia. This year, Trakindo held K3TAB for the 12th times in Polytechnic level and the 11th times for SMK.

The whole series of activities and processes in K3TAB 2020 is done virtually and prioritizing safety protocols, from the selection, preparation, competition, and closing ceremony. The contested categories include Presentation on Innovation, Technical Knowledge, and Technical Skills. Most of the categories are conducted in a virtual meeting scheme with online case studies. Meanwhile, the practical category is conducted using the stuntman scheme. The method requires the participants to give instructions to the technicians at the workshop.

This year, 13 heavy-equipment engineering schools joined the K3TAB. The participants for the SMK levels are from SMKN 1 Balikpapan, SMKN 1 Lubukpakam, SMKN 1 Singosari, SMKN 2 Dumai, SMKN 2 Sumbawa Besar, SMKN 6 Samarinda, and SMKN 3 Sorong. While the participants from Politeknik level are from Politeknik Negeri Banjarmasin, Politeknik Negeri Samarinda, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, Politeknik TEDC Bandung, Politeknik Negeri Padang, and Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang.

“K3TAB is the perfect platform for us to monitor the development of the students. It also generated positive impacts and synergy from the cooperation established to support the next generation,” Yulia added.
