The world's mining business is experiencing a super-cycle trend, a period when commodity prices rise significantly due to soaring demand. Committed to supporting customers in increasing productivity, PT Trakindo Utama (Trakindo), provider of Caterpillar heavy equipment solutions, introduced the Cat 395 to the Indonesian market.
The excavator that comes to replace the Cat 390F is equipped with various technological updates that make it work better, but with lower maintenance costs. These upgrades can help mining operators take advantage of the super cycle trend to increase production.
"The latest design and technology used by the Cat 395 will increase productivity up to 10 percent higher than its predecessor. While the structural durability is twice as good and maintenance costs can be saved up to 20 percent lower," said Barkah Rahmat, Product Manager of Trakindo, at the Cat 395 launching event in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Wednesday (9/6/2021).
The better productivity, said Barkah, was achieved because the swing torque and stick power of the excavator were increased by 10 percent. That makes the cycle time and material cutting process faster. With an increase in counterweight of 3.3 tons, the volume of the bucket can be increased to 7m³.
Another feature of the Cat 395 is the installation of a new hydrostatic swing circuit that was previously only available on the Cat 6015B. This circuit makes multifunction operation smoother and thus saves fuel consumption.
The structural durability of the Cat 395 is also twice as great. Boom, stick, and frame, twice as durable as the previous series due to thickened plates. All of this provides reliable performance for long periods of time under even the toughest conditions. This redesign makes the service life longer.
The fuel system’s water and sediment drains and hydraulic system’s oil level check are positioned close together at ground level, making routine maintenance faster, easier, and safer.
There are three operating modes for the Cat 395, namely Power, Smart and ECO. In Power mode, the excavator puts out maximum power at all times. Smart Mode takes the guesswork out because the engine and hydraulic power will automatically adjust to actual digging conditions. Meanwhile, ECO mode reduces engine speed and cycle time while maintaining breakout power to reduce fuel consumption and optimize performance.
The Cat 395 is also equipped with comprehensive technologies so operators and owners can make the most of the excavator. There's Cat Payload which makes load forecasting even more efficient without the need to swing; Cat Grade 2D that provides operators with visual guidance via a touchscreen monitor for greater accuracy; then Lift Assist, a new safety feature to prevent the excavator from tipping over.
VisionLink® in Cat 395 software helps operators manage production targets remotely. The USB port on the monitor allows operators to download payload data from a single shift for up to 30 working days. With this feature, operators can easily manage the progress of their work without the need for an internet connection or a VisionLink subscription.
Then there's the standard Product Link™ which provides location, hours worked, fuel usage, productivity, downtime, diagnostic codes and other machine data that can be customized on demand via the VisionLink online interface. All of this makes it easier for customers to increase efficiency at work, while reducing operational costs.
Cat Remote Services is also available to anticipate problems that may occur during operation. This feature consists of Remote Troubleshoot to connect owners with dealer service for quick troubleshooting and Remote Flash that ensures machine software is always updated for maximum performance.
The Cat 395 offers a choice of Deluxe and Premium cabins. Performance-enhancing equipment such as a front-facing control panel, keyless start button and a large touchscreen with jog dial are standard features on this excavator.
"We believe this new product with the latest design and technology can help customers to be more productive. Trakindo and Caterpillar will continue to innovate to provide better heavy equipment solutions over time," concluded Barkah.
